Warwick gymnastics club volunteer wins top award
WHETHER it is club administration, major competitions, a market stall or sausage sizzle, Dani Peel is always there at the Warwick Gymnastics Club.
Her commitment to her club and the juniors who do gymnastics was recognised last night when Condamine Sports Club president Ross Bell presented her with the volunteer of the year award.
She received a trophy and a $500 cheque for her club from the Condamine Sports Club.
While her work with gymnastics may all be voluntary, the nomination from the club stated that as an example of her work ethic and commitment, Dani never sees any of the competition, not even her own daughter India, when she competes at home.
Dani gets the chance to watch her daughter at away competitions.
Dani and husband Greg first volunteered when India joined 12 years ago.
This year, she has been re-elected as administrative assistant and competition secretary.
Her true forte is the organisation of the invitational competitions which attract 200 children from across south-east Queensland twice a year.
She enters scores and makes sure the presentations are on time and without mistakes.
With the support of fellow club members, every competition runs like clockwork and year after year visiting clubs tell Warwick officials the events on the Southern Downs are the best organised and most enjoyable on the calendar.
She is regarded as the "make it happen" person.
Dani researches and organises promotions, clothing orders, rosters, fund raising, equipment replacements, safety checks and is an inspiration to all who work with her.
Three to four afternoons a week, she taps away at her keyboard doing all forms of club organisation and organises the schedule of meetings, training, qualification upgrades and competitions for the head coach.
She knows the name of every member and their parents and is the heart and soul of her beloved Warwick Gymnastics Club.
The volunteer award judges, who are independent of all sponsors, were amazed by the quality of the nominations and commented on the difficult task to split so many good nominations.
Christine Bradfield (Warwick Hack and Pony Club), Craig Peard (Warwick Horse Trials Club), Peter Lane (Warwick Karting Club), Damien Lawler (Rose City Boxing Club) and Linda Coombes (Warwick parkrun) were all presented with a certificate last night in recognition of their work for their clubs and sport in general.
