Warwick has five girls in Darling Downs sevens team
RUGBY: Five Warwick players have been named in the Darling Downs' Youth Girls Sevens squads.
Kate Wild and Tshinta Kendall are in the Downs' under-17 squad.
Warwick Water Rats sevens coach Lauren Fowler is assistant coach.
The under-15 team will be coached by Marty Leggat and includes three players from Warwick: Molly Turnbull, Niamh Fender and Shona McFarland.
The Darling Downs' teams will play in the girls' sevens state championships in October.
This year the state championships coincide with round four of the AON Uni Sevens Series. That series will be held at Bond University on October4-5.
This carnival forms a key part of the pathways for the next generation of Sevens stars, with the state championships a key talent-identification carnival for the Queensland development squads.
"The talent and depth in ourtalent sides has increased substantially this year and is a reflection of the time and effort our sevens coaches and participants are committing to the sport,” Downs Rugby's Mitchell Simpson said.
"Our participation numbers are increasing and this is having a flow-on effect into our representative programs as well.”
Both Downs squads contain 16 players.
