Warwick High School's musical takes kids Back to the 80s

WARWICK'S Town Hall will be once again graced with big hair and shoulder pads as local students light up the stage this May.

Warwick State High School will be going Back to the 80s to have everyone singing and dancing along to the hits of the decade in this smash-hit musical.

Producer Michelle Ferdinand said that, with the musical being held every two years, they have a whole new cast of leads.

"We've got a great cast this year," Mrs Ferdinand said.

"The kids are very keen and excited for the show."

Based in the US, this musical tells the story of Corey Palmer Sr, now 30-something and living in 2001, as he relives his senior year at William Ocean High School in the 1980s.

Jacob Meiklejohn and Clayton Vellacott have stepped up from their usual roles doing sound and music to play Corey Sr in his thirties and 17-year-old Corey Jr.

Mrs Ferdinand said it was great to see the boys stepping out of their comfort zone and rise to the challenge.

She also said first-time director Katie-Jane Henderson is doing a great job and is on schedule to deliver a wonderful performance.

The musical explores young love and growing, set to 80s favourites like Love Shack and Material Girl.

"We have a cast and crew of over 100 students on board for the production," she said.

"Unlike a lot of schools we have our own band play, rather than a soundtrack, and that really adds to the performance."

Join the graduating class of William Ocean High School as they live through their final senior year as they experience the fun, the heartbreak, the loves and the loneliness of growing up, all set to the biggest hits of the 80s.

Tickets go on sale from April 22 to 30, $15 for adults and $10 for students and concession.

Don't miss out on this fun-filled show, sure to have you dancing in your seats.
