Warwick High students weave futures in fashion

WARWICK High School textiles students are styling up with kaftans for summer and Rose City Shoppingworld customers can get an eye of their designs at a temporary exhibit in the shopping centre.

The Year 11 class were tasked to create kaftans, with fabric selection, design and construction left up to each student.

Sophie McMillan said she and friend Hayley Lamont had a shared love of fashion and enjoyed the challenge of creating their own outfit.

"I thought it was a really nice fabric that would be nice and flowy for summer," she said.

Teacher Wendy Woodford said she was excited to bring the subject back to the curriculum this year.

"It's wonderful textiles is back in a big way at Warwick High. The home economics department is very excited," Mrs Woodford said.

"There's a depth of quality of talent on our doorsteps and I'm looking forward to growing the subject in the future."

See the kaftans on display near Bi-Lo until Saturday.
