Team eyes off another trophy
WARWICK captain Gary Millard wants to make it three trophy wins from a possible four in the next fortnight in the Toowoomba Hockey Association veterans competition.
The team joined the competition last year and won its first President Cup finals before going down 1-0 in the grand final last year.
Andrew Millard and Graham Olsen were the goal scorers in a 2-0 win against Red Lion on Thursday night in the President’s Cup final, which took Warwick trophy wins to two from a possible three.
The game was also for competition points, which put Warwick into second spot and two chances in the finals series.
In the cup final, Warwick led 1-0 at half-time after Andrew’s goal midway through the half.
Darren Grayson and Donald Costigan were strong up front for the winners in the cup final. Robert Murphy defended strongly.
Goalie Dave Zwoerner stopped the Red Lion’s shot at goal.
The major semi-final against Rangeville is at 8.30pm tomorrow with the winner qualifying for the grand final a fortnight later.
The Rangeville side includes Warwick-based player Rob Pohlman who played for the Toowoomba club well before the Warwick side was formed.
Former Warwick junior Simon Carrie also plays for Rangeville.
The Warwick captain reckons his side is a good chance for the premiership this season.
“It will be a tough battle, as only a couple of competition points separate the finalists,” Gary said.
