Warwick Horse Trials Club used by bronze medal team
EVENTING: There is a Warwick connection to the Australian team's bronze medal win in eventing at the Rio Olympics.
Chris Burton, who was part of the medal-winning team and fifth in the individual at Rio was a member of the Warwick Horse Trials Club and a regular competitor at Morgan Park when he was working his way through eventing ranks.
Burton is originally from the Jondaryan area west of Toowoomba.
He could well have medalled in the individual except for a couple of knocked rails in his final showjumping round but his performance was above expectations on a horse which is young by eventing standards.
As well as Burton, the other members of the Australian team in Rio, Sam Griffiths, Stuart Tinney and Shane Rose have regularly competed at Morgan Park and won events in Warwick.
The medal win is likely to give new momentum to a sport which had a golden era of success at the Olympics in the 1990s and at Sydney 2000.
