Warwick in two finals this weekend in cricket
CRICKET: Warwick captain Dave Walker is not over-confident approaching the Davis Shield final against Lockyer at Slade Park on Sunday.
Warwick won by 212 runs last Sunday at Slade Park and the same two teams will meet this Sunday in the final.
"I am wary of Lockyer making a few changes to their team,” Walker said.
"They are always strong but everyone in the Warwick team chipped in to record an easy win last Sunday.
"We were lucky to have five overs against Lockyer before lunch and Fergus Connolly and Tyhe Clarkson had them 5-13 at lunch.
"All the boys were running between overs and pumped for the five overs and that enthusiasm inspired our bowlers and we didn't give them any easy runs in the field.
"I have never seen a Warwick keen as keen as in those five overs.”
Warwick has to field two representative teams on Sunday as the Mitchell Shield team will play Lockyer in the final at Mulgowie.
While teams haven't been finalised, it is expected last Sunday's Davis Shield century maker Lachlan Gross will play Mitchell Shield.
If he is in Mitchell Shield that will put more responsibility on the Warwick batting order as the next best in a score of 8-257 last Sunday where Walker and Tyhe Clarkson with 23.
"I will be relying a lot of Will Gordon and Ben Heppell with the bat in the final,” Walker said. Spectators are welcome to spend Sunday in the air-conditioned comfort of the clubhouse at Slade Park to watch the Davis Shield final.
Five out
WARWICK has the bare 11 available for the away Mitchell Shield final on Sunday.
"We only have 16 players qualified for the Mitchell Shield final and five are unavailable on Sunday,” Walker said.
Warwick lost to Lockyer in its first game of the competition and then narrowly beat Stanthorpe.
Last Sunday, Stanthorpe was dismissed for 125 and Lockyer scored the required runs in 22 overs with six wickets in hand so Lockyer will go into the final with plenty of confidence.
Captain Jason Steketee was unavailable for the round loss to Lockyer but played against Stanthorpe and will lead Warwick in the final.
"We will be hoping Michael Bourke will get runs after a club score of 77 against Wheatvale two weeks ago,” Walker said.
"With the ball, Andrew McConnell will be a key with his accuracy and swing after taking four wickets against Stanthorpe in our last round game.”
With two representative games on Sunday, all games in the last round of Condamine Cup club cricket will be played on Saturday.
While the table has to be confirmed by the Warwick Cricket Association, it appears Maryvale Condamine and Wheatvale will finish in the top two positions in A grade but the results of some games could determine the order teams finish and qualify for the finals. Maryvale is unbeaten and has already secured the A-grade minor premiership.
