Warwick orienteer best of the Aussies in New Zealand
WARWICK athlete Simeon Burrill was the best placed Australian in the first event of the Oceania Orienteering Championships at Auckland on Friday.
He came fourth behind three New Zealanders in the Oceania Sprint in the M20 age group which is good news when he is competing with fellow Australians to make the team for this year's World Junior Orienteering Championships in Finland.
Burrill has already competed in two world junior championships and this weekend's competition in New Zealand is part of the selection process for the championships in Finland.
He is one of three orienteers who are monthly winners to be honoured at the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star of the Month awards on May 2. The other orienteers with monthly wins in 2016 are Madi Balloch and Jaiden Fidge. Jaiden is also competing in New Zealand at Easter.
