Warwick over 35 years men’s hockey team in Rockhampton
HOCKEY: Australian over 35 years hockey representative Adam Byrne has organised the Warwick team to play in this weekend’s state championships at Rockhampton.
The over 35s team flew to Rockhampton today and was scheduled to play its first match tonight.
This weekend carnival will be the third for a Warwick team at over 35 level.
Last year, they lost in the final of the championships at Gympie.
Warwick was represented in state teams and Adam Byrne went on to make the Australian team.
Byrne missed his chance to play for Australia as the scheduled international carnival in Canberra was cancelled.
He is one of the Warwick players who has nominated for state selection this weekend in Maroons teams to play in the nationals in Adelaide.
Olympian Grant Smith, from the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, will play for Warwick in Rockhampton. He played earlier this season in nines at Queens Park.
