Warwick paceman happy with form before Adelaide trip
CRICKET: While he is in the team as a bowler, Warwick paceman Mark Steketee reckons he is in the best batting form of his career.
He has been as high as No.8 in the batting order for the Brisbane Heat this season and if a couple more catches had been taken, Steketee could have been at the wicket in the last over of the narrow win against the Thunder on Wednesday.
"I have made a few runs this season but wouldn't mind a 50 or 60.” he said.
Against the Thunder, Steketee only conceded 14 overs in three overs but said he was more happy with how the team went rather than in his own performance. He bowled against Thunder top scorer Shane Watson.
"I have bowled to Watto before and he hasn't got to me too much but I haven't got him out either,” Steketee said.
Star Heat batsman Chris Lynn returned from injury with 25 runs off nine balls and Steketee said he hadn't seen the batsman so nervous before.
"He is an absolute freak with the bat,” Steketee said.
The Warwick paceman is part of a team led by former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.
"Brendon is pretty relaxed which makes me a bit more relaxed,” Steketee said.
"He is an absolute inspiration and a little jack in the box in the field.”
Steketee will fly to Adelaide for the Big Bash game against the Strikers on Sunday night and said he expected a flat wicket and plenty of runs.
"Adelaide are pretty good all over the park,” he said.
He will come up against a team captained by Travis Head. The pair have played in Australian underage teams.
"I got him out in a shield game in Cairns but he can be very damaging on his day,” Steketee said.
He nominates the Renegades as one of the leading teams.
"They have a lot of good players and can beat anyone on their day.”
