Warwick pair off to nationals

JACOB Lawrence and Tom Cobon are two Warwick Polocrosse Club members training hard for a season of club and representative polocrosse.

The two were at a recent junior training camp at the Killarney Polocrosse Club grounds and will train at Chinchilla this weekend.

Both are part of Queensland open junior team to play in the nationals at Ballarat in Victoria on March 22-28.

The trip to Ballarat will be the first nationals for the pair.

While the sections (three players on field for each team) have not been finalised, both Lawrence and Cobon believe they could be in the same section at Ballarat as they play together for the Warwick club.

Lawrence, 13, plays in the number one or three positions while Cobon, 15, is a number two or three player.

Both were upbeat about their weekend of training at Killarney under coach Jamie Lamb and some experienced players.

“I learnt a lot about horse skills and how to set my horse up,” Lawrence said.

Cobon was more confident about the nationals after the training camp as he learnt more about positioning his horse correctly in attack and defence.

The first Downs polocrosse in 2010 is the Barastoc Interstate Series and Shell Cup at Morgan Park on April 9-11.
