Warwick pair off to tetrathlon championships
PONY CLUB: Two Warwick Hack and Pony Club members will compete for Queensland in the national championships in Toowoomba next week.
Grace McLauchlan will compete in the tetrathlon and Nikki Burraston in the tetrathlon and mounted games.
In the tetrathlon, riders are required to swim 200m, run 2km, shoot with a laser pistol at a target and compete in showjumping and cross country jumping.
Next week will be the first time tetrathlon has been run at a national championships in Queensland. There are some similarities between the tetrathlon and the Olympic modern pentathlon. The jumping phase incorporates cross country fences and regulation showjumping while the swim, run and shoot are for the riders only.
Mounted games riders will compete in 28 separate games as part of the national championships.
Both McLauchlan and Burraston competed for Queensland in the mounted games in nationals in Perth.
In the second week of the school holidays, McLauchlan and Burraston will be on the road again in a group of 14 riders from Zone 21 for state championships in Roma.
The championships on September 25-29 will feature five disciplines, formal gymkhana, Stockman's Challenge, campdrafting, sporting gymkhana and mounted games.
The 14 riders for Roma are from the Killarney, Warwick and Texas clubs.
