Warwick photographers improving out of sight
ONE section that continues to grow in leaps and bounds each at the Warwick Show is photography.
Janet Platz has been steward of the section now for three years and said the standard was improving out of sight.
"It's been quite amazing really, to see how all of the photographers are learning about what makes up a good shot,” she said.
"They're learning from the photographs that win and they are learning from the other competitors, which is really great to see.”
Mrs Platz said judge Chris McFerran had been impressed with the calibre of entries.
"It his makes his job more difficult but that's a good thing,” she said.
"He's having to go right down to composition to separate the best.
"Next year Chris is considering offering his critiques to the entrants, talking through with them why a certain photo was chosen and they might improve their own works.
"It's something Sue Keong is considering over in the art section as well.”
Mrs Platz said the pavilion had seen huge interest from show-goers.
"It always does,” she said.
"There's a great interest in seeing what the talented locals are producing.
"This year the layout of the pavilion is really great, there's a wonderful flow through and people can see all the way through from the front door, which draws them around to see everything.
"The Haigs collection of historic local photography has been really popular as well - a great deal of reminiscing has been done looking at those old photos.”
Mrs Platz said her personal favourite from the photography show was a black and white portrait of an old woman and a young girl by Hilary Neden.
