Warwick player in sixth-placed team in Perth

RUGBY: Warwick footballer Arnie Briel was part of the Queensland White team which came sixth in the 2016 Youth National Sevens Championships at McGillivray Oval in Perth.

Briel is a back rower in the 15-man game but has been concentrating on sevens with his club team in Brisbane.

The back rower graduated from Scots PGC College this year and has also starred in athletics with top-10 finishes at the state championships.

In the play-off for fifth in the boys competition, ACT took home the plate in a 33-14 win over Queensland White.

The Queensland Red Girls were clinical in both their finals beating Western Australia in the semi final 26-14 and then going on to win the cup final with a 22-14 win over NSW Blue.

The NSW Blue Boys team went through the entire championship undefeated and were impressive across the entire weekend. After a tough semi fnal against WA, the visitors came away with a 12-0 win. From there it was all NSW, putting on a stunning performance to beat Queensland Red boys 34-0 in the final.

In other results Western Australia had their highest ever finish at the National Youth Sevens Championships in both the boys and girl's division placing third, with the girls comfortably beating the ACT 34-5. The WA Boys side had a hard-earned victory over Victoria 22-7.

NSW White Girls took out the plate for fifth position in a strong 42-0 win over Victoria.
