Warwick player stars in interstate series

POLOCROSSE: Warwick player Cameron Shepherd fine-tuned his form for next month’s nationals with three player of the match awards in the Barastoc Interstate Series at Morgan Park.

Shepherd won the best horse of the carnival award and best Australian Stock Horse with his mare Favourite. Lance Anderson won best horse and rider.

He captained the Queensland open men’s team to two wins against Victoria and a thrilling 19-18 victory against New South Wales in the final game on Saturday night.

Rain started late yesterday in the Shell Cup open final and it was decided not to play the final game between Queensland and New South Wales in the interstate series.

Games were played in eight grades which meant New South Wales finished with four overall wins, Queensland three and one wasn’t finalised due to the wash-out.

For Queensland officials, that was an improvement on last year and good news in the run-up to the nationals which start in Albury on April 18.

Luckily for the polocrosse weekend, the 20mm rain nearby on Saturday night missed Morgan Park.

Winners: NSW – U21 women, mixed masters, junior boys and junior girls.

Queensland – U21 men, women, U30 mixed.
