Warwick player vice captain of national team
SEPTEMBER and October each year mean national hockey championships for players from juniors to the elite and masters.
Adam Byrne was one of a number of players from the Warwick team to make the Queensland over 35s team after the state championships in Warwick.
The Queensland team won its gold medal match on Sunday in Hobart. Byrne captained a team which also included another former Warwick junior, Grant Windle, as well as Warwick masters trio Dave Carlson, Peter Somers and Kane Hancock.
Byrne was selected as vice-captain of the Australian team to play in Spain next year.
Warwick club player Jamie Reid and former Warwick player Donald Costigan were in a state over 40s teams which came fourth.
Reid's brother Scott now plays club hockey in Mackay but was part of the Queensland 1 over 40s team which won silver. Scott Reid will play for Australia in Spain next year along with Somers, Carlson, Peter Keeble and Grant Smith who played for Warwick in 2017 masters.
Warwick player and coach Rob Pohlman is currently playing in Hobart as part of the Queensland over 60s team which has a win, loss and draw so far.
Warwick player Shannon Armbruster and Warwick Hockey Association life member Cate Hodgson are both playing for South Australia in their respective age groups at the nationals.
