Warwick players start well in Maroons teams in national polocrosse

POLOCROSSE: Kelsey Rowland from the Warwick club was the star of the show as the Queensland under-21 mixed team won its first game at the National Polocrosse Championships in Albury.

Rowland was part of a Queensland 24-10 victory against Victoria in a team which also includes Anthony O’Leary from the Cunningham club and Grace Young who has played for Clifton.

Three Warwick girls, Keely McGrath, Bree Thornton and Sophie Wells, are part of the U16 junior Queensland team which won 15-7 against Victoria.

Katie Barr from Warwick and Chris Sillitoe from Cunningham are in the Queensland open mixed team which won 28-6 against Victoria on Tuesday after scoring a 31-5 win against the Tri-State team on Monday. The Tri-State teams include players from Tasmania, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Queensland beat Victoria 18-15 in mixed masters on Monday and then lost 26-11 to New South Wales on Tuesday. Southern Downs players Gail Donnelly (Killarney) and Jody Ezzy (Cunningham) are in the Maroons team.

In exhibition games early in the nationals, New South Wales beat Queensland in U12s 15-8.

In men’s masters exhibition games, Queensland has played New South Wales twice for a win each, 24-18 to New South Wales on Monday and 20-16 to Queensland on Tuesday.

The carnival will finish on Sunday after the playing of all finals.
