Warwick police officers gather to honour the fallen
WARWICK police officers and special guests will gather today for a National Police Remembrance Day church service.
Guests will honour police officers who have died in the course of their duties. The ceremony will be an open service for the community and for those who have a connection with police.
A collection will be taken during the service to support Police Legacy.
Officer-in-charge Jamie Deacon said it was an important event to the officers at the Warwick station. "It's a service to commemorate and remember those officers that have given the ultimate sacrifice while on duty," he said.
"It's an opportunity to do that in connection with the community.
"It's an official service but with a reflection and focus on police and those who have lost their lives. Policing is a notoriously difficult job."
Senior Sergeant Deacon said he had been fortunate to have never lost an officer he was close to.
He said everyone had been touched with the losses of Damian Leeding, shot dead attending an armed robbery on the Gold Coast in 2011, and other fallen officers including Casey Blain, who died in a crash at Routh Creek.
The service will be held at the Warwick Uniting Church at 37 Guy St at 10am.
Morning tea will be served after the service.
