Warwick police support showgrounds New Year's Eve event

WARWICK police are supporting the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society New Year's Eve event to be held at the Warwick Showgrounds.

Officer in charge Jamie Deacon said he was impressed with the planning and organisation lengths the society had gone to.

"We have been consulted several times and attended meetings with the committee to ensure the event is as smooth as possible," he said.

Senior Sergeant Deacon said the group traditionally ran good events.

"They have good private security and are well-organised," he said.

"It is good for Warwick and from a police perspective as it brings people to a central location which assists policing.

"The on-grounds camping is a terrific idea because it discourages people from driving after consuming alcohol."

Snr Sgt Deacon said police would have a zero tolerance attitude to anti-social behaviour and police would act if necessary.

"We don't want to stop people from having a good time but do so safely and responsibly," he said.

"Remember it is a family friendly event, so act appropriately and there will be no problems."
