Warwick pound to open
THE Southern Downs Regional Council's new pound facility in Warwick will be officially opened by Mayor Peter Blundell on Monday at 11am.
The new facility was constructed for temporary housing of Warwick's lost or abandoned dogs and cats.
With 20 holding pens and full security and camera surveillance, it is a modern and well appointed facility.
Local builders, Matthew Collins Builders were engaged to construct the new facility following the completion of a very competitive tender process.
Including design, construction, fit out, drainage, camera surveillance, security system, roadworks and concreting of footpath and pathways, as well as security fencing and landscaping, council has invested $450,000 in community animal management.
The building was handed over in April/May this year and has been operating as the main animal pound since then.
"The new facility is a huge improvement and provides an environment which is more animal friendly," director of planning and environment Ken Harris said.
