City prepares to defy deluge
RAINCOATS, gum boots and dinghys could be needed over the next day or two, with up to 100mm of rain expected to fall over the city.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Vinord Anand yesterday said rain was expected to hang around until at least Thursday.
"We do expect to see 50-100mm in the next 24 hours," he said yesterday evening.
Mr Anand said rain should ease by mid-morning on Thursday but could persist throughout Australia Day afternoon.
Warwick Tourism and Events CEO Tracy Vellacott said she was "optimistic" Australia Day festivities could go ahead, as planned.
"We have our fingers crossed we can be cheeky and get away with it," she said.
In the case rain did not ease before Thursday, formal proceedings would be moved from Victoria Park to the Town Hall.
