Warwick primed for Rose Bowl carnival
POLOCROSSE fans and competing teams are gearing up for the NTI Rose Bowl Carnival starting next Friday night.
Co-ordinator Robyn Fraser said about 3000 spectators were expected at Morgan Park next weekend.
"We have been running the rose bowl carnival for close to 40 years," she said.
"This year the Polocrosse Association of Australia has invited us to host the Australian Junior Challenge alongside the carnival."
Warwick club treasurer Les Fraser said Warwick had become the premier venue for hosting major events, due to first-class facilities, with the night polocrosse being an attraction due to the full flood-lit main field.
"We have 400 covered horse stalls and 150 uncovered, as well as powered camping facilities that can accommodate a large number of horses and people over the weekend," Mr Fraser said.
Nominations for the carnival will close on Thursday but 70 club teams were expected to compete.
The club competition is for open teams in A grade to H grade.
The national mixed PAA Green and Gold teams will compete against selected Queensland and New South Wales teams in the Junior Challenge, Mrs Fraser said.
"The club competition caters to players of all levels," she said.
"The junior teams are put together with players from all over Australia and a fair bit of travel is involved."
The competition kicks off on Friday from 6pm.
Hot food will be available from the Clubhouse Cafe, open from 5pm Friday and 7am Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets, available from the gate, are $12.50 for the entire day or $8/night. There is free admission for children younger than 16 years.
