Warwick race caller to Easter Monday TAB race meeting

RACING: Warwick-based race caller Anthony Collins will call all seven races at the Easter Monday race meeting at Allman Park.

There are 85 acceptances for Monday's meeting and the patrons will be the winners - there is free admission.

Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant said he expected Collins would be one of the leading race callers in the country in a few years.

"He called all the races on Weetwood day in Toowoomba and also called one of the finals in the New South Wales Country Championships," Grant said.

While Collins started his race calling career in Warwick, he now predominately calls racing in northern New South Wales and Toowoomba.

While the commentary from Collins will be heard on course and on Sky TV, former jockey Bernadette Cooper will be in town to do some interviews for Sky TV between races.

Grant said the course was rated as a good three.

"That is how you want to present a course," he said.

There will be an opportunity on Monday for race patrons to support injured Toowoomba track riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm who are in hospital in Brisbane after falls eight days ago at Clifford Park.

Grant said many race people from Warwick knew the track riders and he hoped there were plenty of donations in the tins which would be at Allman Park on Easter Monday so patrons, owners, trainers and jockeys could support the two injured riders and their families.

The first race on Monday will be at 1.15pm and the last at 4.55pm. As Warwick is the only race meeting in the eastern half of Queensland on Monday, the focus of the nation will be on Allman Park.
