Warwick racers eighth in Targa Adelaide
THE Warwick Team Betta of Rob Balint and Peter Lane has finished eighth overall in Targa Adelaide in their 2001 Mitsubishi Evo.
During the event, they were 11th after the first day and then moved up one place each day for an eighth finish overall.
Balint, the driver, and navigator Lane were second in the early modern class after moving into second place on the first of four days of competition.
"We closed the gap behind first in class from one minute, 53 seconds, on the second day to just under a minute at the end of the event," Lane said.
On day three, the Warwick Team Betta posted six of the fastest times in the eight legs in class and three of the four on the final day.
"It was so wet on the first two days, we just couldn't match the leaders, Adelaide pair Tim Possingham and Ben Scott in the wet. They were driving a Nissan GTR," Lane said.
"The car went beautifully, which is a credit to crew members Rob's brother Gerard Balint from Brisbane and Michael Willems from Gold Coast."
Targa Adelaide was the first event in the Australian Targa Championships over four rounds.
The Warwick team will compete in Targa High Country at Mt Buller, Victoria, in mid-November and then two events in Tasmania next year.
Both will be back at work in Warwick this morning after a round trip of 4000km.
