Warwick Railway, full steam ahead for Jumpers and Jazz
SOUTHERN Downs Steam Railway are turning back the clock this weekend to help celebrate Jumpers and Jazz.
Board a ride on the jazz express Heritage Train Ride special to experience the magic of winter, linked with some old world charm.
Passengers are encouraged to brush off their top hats and pull up their white gloves and come dressed in their best period dress clothing for the trip, to enhance the historical journey.
President of the SDSR, Peter Gregory said it would spark many fond childhood memories of family trips.
"The C17, 1951 built steam locomotive with Davidson and Evans carriages will bring back many childhood memories for mums and dads who travelled on trains 30 or 40 years ago,” Mr Gregory said.
Special two hour trips will be running in light of Warwick's biggest festival, to allow visitors to enjoy the historic sights of the area and fit in plenty of yarnbombing as well.
Escape the morning cold and catch the morning service for Hendon today at 10am, or go for an afternoon ride to Wheatvale at 2pm.
Local musicians will provide entertainment as you wait to embark, with Jazz on the Platform featuring Girl Friday performing between services.
"The weather is going to be perfect, we expect a full train with so many people in town this weekend,” Mr Gregory said.
Visitors will be riding in the newly named, Bob Keogh, C17 steam locomotive.
"The entire team at SDSR recognise the tireless work undertaken by Bob, in getting the rusty hulk to Warwick, assembling a team to restore it, then to secure drivers with the skills and time to operate the locomotive,” Mr Gregory said.
Tickets are available at the Warwick Railway Station on Lyons street, adult tickets are $30 and $15 for children. Be sure to get to the platform early to not miss out on the excitement.
