Warwick RSL going stronger than ever
RENOVATIONS to Kings Theatre and a great entertainment line up are just some of the big ticket items in store for the Warwick RSL Services and Citizens Memorial Club.
Manager Jo Schwenke said the club was going stronger than ever, despite news Dalby RSL had closed, which posed questions about the future of all RSLs in the region.
"The RSL is going strong and debt free," she said.
"The RSL is a vital part of the Warwick community and is well supported.
"RSLs are icons and they attract a lot of local support but travellers also like to visit."
Mrs Schwenke said they try to provide a venue that people can enjoy.
"We want to please the community, and the RSL has come a long way," she said.
"In the '90s we went through quite a rough patch and had some very difficult times.
"But now we are stronger than ever."
Renovations for Kings Theatre will include air-conditioning and the ability to change the size of the space to fit any function.
"We want to make it comfortable," she said.
"On the outside we will keep it 20th Century but on the inside it will be 21st.
"The closing of the Dalby RSL should be a wake-up call for the community though; they really shouldn't take their RSL for granted."
Mrs Schwenke said they don't make a profit from entertainment.
"We get enough tickets to cover the cost, we get entertainers in for our members," she said.
"Sometimes it's hard to know what the community would like to see, so we do rely on feedback."
