Warwick secures a TAB meeting next Tuesday

RACING: Warwick has secured an extra TAB race meeting next Tuesday.

The meeting will feature at least seven TAB races.

Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant received a call at 3pm today asking if his club would run a TAB meeting next Tuesday.

"We immediately said yes,” he said.

"We are a race club so that is what we do, race. Warwick is always happy to accept extra meetings.”

The meeting has been moved from Beaudesert to Warwick after a Racing Queensland inspection deemed the Beaudesert track not suitable for racing next week.

The racecourse at Beaudesert was hit hard by flooding at the end of March and early April.

Grant is not expecting a massive crowd as the races are on a weekday and the notice is short.

"We only have a week to organise the meeting but a decision has already been made that there will be free admission,” Grant said.

"The meeting is a chance for local trainers to nominate horses for races with additional prize money to a regular meeting.”

The TAB will operate on course and some bookmakers will stand on the meeting.

Nominations for the meeting will close at 11am Wednesday.

The additional meeting will give Warwick four meetings within five weeks, May 13, May 27, June 6 and June 17.
