Seniors petitioning for Warwick Australia Day venue

WARWICK Senior Citizens members are petitioning the council to bring Australia Day events back to Warwick.

President Joe Owens said Leslie Park would be perfect for families.

"There's plenty of room for stalls and lots of room for young families to take their kids to run wild in true Australia Day spirit," he said.

"Let's spend our Australia Day dollar in our own town - goodness knows we're paying enough."

The seniors' petition is circulating in a number of Warwick businesses.

Glengallan Trust chair Donna Fraser said the Australia Day venue was a decision for the community and the council.

"From our perspective we'd be very happy to have it here again," she said.

"Because last year was so successful, we'll be hosting markets on Australia Day anyway."
