Warwick SES crew encouraging storm preparation
WITH storms starting to brew across the Southern Downs, the State Emergency Service is making its own preparations and encouraging residents to get storm ready.
While the Rose City has been lucky enough to escape damaging storms so far, the Warwick SES crew knows it's only a matter of time before one hits.
Warwick deputy area controller Jamie Goodwin said there were a few simple things residents could do to make sure they were prepared.
"Residents can tidy up their yards, clean their gutters and be aware of the quality of their roof," he said.
"Whether your roof needs a few extra screws or a tidy up - it's important."
Blocked gutters and downed trees are two of the biggest reasons for local SES callouts, according to Mr Goodwin.
"People don't realise blocked gutters can leak back into the roof," he said.
"We haven't had a lot of serious storm fronts through here so far.
"When I first started here sleep was hopeless - we're clearly due for another round of that."
The call for preparation is clearly being heard by locals, with statistics showing Warwick residents have reduced their calls to the SES during severe weather.
