Warwick's Super Sprint success
LEN Don and Stephen Wilkins were top-two finishers from Warwick in round two of the Queensland Super Sprint Series at Morgan Park Raceway at the weekend.
Wilkins won in Formula Vee and Don was second in the historic Formula Ford category.
New Warwick District Sporting Car Club member and former Rockhampton driver Brian Dunn finished in the top six in the sports car category.
Brisbane driver Geoff Noble was first overall in a Honda-powered Lotus Elise.
The meeting attracted 122 competitors from as far as Hervey Bay.
Club president Bill Campbell said the super sprint round was up with the best the club had run.
“The weather was perfect and racing strong,” Campbell said.
This weekend, the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland will be at the raceway and always bring more than 100 riders to town for the weekend.
The next big meeting for the club is round three of the Queensland Motor Racing Championships on June 25-26 which is being promoted by the MG Car Club of Queensland.
Campbell said a National Historic Meeting is planned on July 30-31 which is expected to attract 240 competitors from all Australian states.
“We expect drivers from Tasmania which is rare for Morgan Park,” Campbell said.
