Warwick superbike round win for rider from Goulburn
MOTORCYCLE RACING: Goulburn (NSW) rider Troy Herfoss showed his class to secure pole position and win both races at the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship round at Morgan Park Raceway at the weekend.
Herfoss, who rides for the Crankt Honda Racing team, might now be based on the Gold Coast but will always be the rider from Goulburn.
With two race wins, he was a clear winner of the Warwick round.
Herfoss started in the lead group on the grid along with Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha), who came to Warwick as series leader, and reigning champion Mike Jones (Ducati). World championship winner Troy Bayliss was team boss for Ducati at the weekend.
The first two finished in the same order they started but Glenn Allerton from the Yamaha team sneaked into third.
The action stopped at noon today at Morgan Park Raceway for lunch when Bayliss, Shaun Giles or Steve Martin took some competition winners for a spin.
The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland organised the Warwick round and president Paul Dawson described the round as fabulous.
"There were people everywhere,” he said.
"The crowd is up compared to last year.”
Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie had her ride on a fast bike after a challenge from the Wanneroo Mayor in Western Australia where they have a motor racing circuit.
Warwick District Sporting Car Club secretary John Torr said business at the canteen was the most in history.
"Some said Saturday spectator numbers were twice last year,” he said.
