Warwick Swimming club short listed for national award
SWIMMING: The Warwick Swimming Club has been short-listed as a finalist for the Australian Swimming Club of the Year award.
The award will be presented at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 6.
The major awards in Australian Swimming will be presented at the gala Sunday night dinner. Many of the awards are likely to go to medallists from the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, including one award for the open water swimmer of the year.
Warwick Swimming Club president Neil Vickers said the club was estactic to be short listed.
"Our club will be represented at the dinner and the short-list will include clubs from around Australia,” he said.
Vickers said a club representative had to address in writing a number of selection criteria on issues like community engagement, promotion of swimming, encouragement of swimmers with a disability and numerous other criteria.
"We made a lot of changes in the club last year and there is a positive vibe around the club and increased membership this year,” he said.
The club has swims each Friday night at WIRAC during the season and is represented at more than 20 carnivals a year.
"This award short listing is recognition for a lot of volunteers and swimming club office bearers down the years. I understand we are one of the oldest swimming clubs in Queensland.”
More swimmers welcome to WIRAC any Friday night from 6pm where they and their parents can talk to club officials about activities and join in the action.
