Warwick team heading to Stanthorpe for country champs
SWIMMING: Warwick Swimming Club captain Caitlin Skaines gives her team a good chance of winning the top overall club award at Saturday's Darling Downs Country Swimming Championships in Stanthorpe.
"It has been tough but fun training in the holidays,” Skaines said. "I am confident we can do well as a club on Saturday, our swimmers have improved a lot over the holidays.”
After training on Tuesday, team members received new shirts sponsored by Haymans Electrical Warwick, Saturn Electrical, Lister Irrigation, Red Rooster, Condamine Accountants and Roche Engineering.
There are 39 Warwick swimmers in the team to compete on Saturday.
Swimmers, seven years and under, have events from 25m up, while swimmers in the older age groups have races up to 200m.
Warwick swimmers keen to concentrate on longer events - 400m, 800m and 1500m - will have to wait to the regionals in Toowoomba in March.
The Warwick club had its first Friday club night for 2018 last week but is having this Friday off due to the country championships.
They will return to club nights on January 25, a day earlier than usual due to the Australia Day holiday being on a Friday.
Swimming club secretary Kylie White said new members were always welcome.
"There will be a discount for membership for swimmers who join up at this stage of the season,” White said.
"The emphasis on Friday night is on swimming personal bests; swimmers are basically racing themselves.”
