Warwick teen organises barrel race in quest for rodeo crown
NO STRANGER to competition, Savannah Halley is continuing her chase for the rodeo crown.
The entries for this year's Rodeo Queen Quest are open and 14-year-old Savannah is one of the first girls to secure her spot.
This October she will head to the Warwick Showgrounds, hoping to crowned Rodeo Princess, a title she missed out on last year.
"I didn't get the princess title last year but I was crowned Princess Fundraiser and Personality,” Savannah said.
"It was a fantastic opportunity regardless of the end results.
"It's something I'm passionate about and it's made me work harder this year.”
Behind the glamour and smiles of this rodeo girl, lies dust and dirt under her fingernails.
Savannah is organising a barrel racing event this weekend.
"I've tried to be really organised, I find it to be fun, exciting and challenging,” she said.
"I hope I can inspire people to do what they love and never give up.”
Saturday's barrel race event is part of Savannah's Queen Quest fundraising and is open for riders in Open 4D, Junior 4D, under 11 and under 5 competitors.
It will be an ABHA affiliated competition with prizes awarded on the day to divisional winners.
Savannah's sponsor's C&K Photographers will be present on the day to capture all the rodeo smiles.
Practice rides start from 8.30am with races to commence at 10am at the Warwick Showgrounds.
If there wasn't already enough fitted into her busy schedule Savannah has also taken up breakaway roping.
"For the past two years I've competed in barrel races, it's only been the last few months I've tried break away roping competitions,” Savannah said.
Cowgirl duties aren't Savannah's only focus, the teenager enjoys playing rugby league and taking pictures with her camera.
