Warwick is tidiest town on the Downs

FOR the second year in a row, Warwick has been crowned the tidiest town on the Downs at the 2009 Ergon Energy Tidy Town Awards.

Southern Down regional Council Parks coordinator John Newley was very excited about the win, announced yesterday at the Warwick Town Hall.

"We are very proud of our community," Mr Newley said.

The day was a great success for the region with Warwick's Young Ambassadors winning the Young Legends Award and Allora Show Society winning an Outstanding Achievement Award.

The judges highlighted the efforts of the young stand-out Juliet Hills, who saw a need to organise a tribute concert to celebrate life on the anniversary of a tragedy where four young lives were lost in the community.

Mayor Ron Bellingham could not have been happier with the results.

"I am really pleased on behalf of our community with a number of people who have put in such hard work to achieve this results," Cr Bellingham said.
