Warwick to get a taste of winter’s ice-cold bite
AFTER a warmer-than-average weekend Warwick residents are being told to brace for a true taste of winter chill.
The Rose City will get a taste this week of what's to come this winter, with temperatures set to plummet to sub-zero.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting temperatures in the first week of winter well below the average June minimum of five degrees, bringing the first run of consecutive frosts for the year.
Temperatures are forecast to drop below zero degrees on Wednesday morning, according to forecaster David Bernard.
Mr Bernard said a cold front coming through the region was expected to bring a cool change last night.
"We're expecting a south-westerly change to come through Sunday evening (last night)," he said. "It will get pretty cold after that. Temperatures might be slightly negative."
Mr Bernard said temperatures could be expected to be five or six degrees below average, much colder than May's coldest morning.
"We had a bit of a cold snap in May, with a minimum of 1.4 degrees on the 18th," he said.
"Overnight temperatures will be much colder than that this week."
The forecast is in stark contrast to the weekend, with temperatures several degrees above average and hitting a top of 24 degrees.
