Warwick to host girls' football carnival on Sunday
FOOTBALL: After three successes by Warwick boys' teams in zone football, the Warwick District Football Association will host a girls' zone football carnival at Queens Park tomorrow.
The girls' carnival will be played in two competitions, 12-14 years and 15-16 years, with teams from South Burnett, Toowoomba, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Warwick and Lockyer Valley.
Warwick will supply all referees this weekend which will be a great experience for officials as young as 12.
Girls' games will be played from 9am-4pm tomorrow at Queens Park.
This season, Warwick has already won the zone championships in under-12 boys' football under Merv Coleman, from the Warwick Wolves Academy coaching panel.
Warwick was runner-up in U14 and U16 boys' age groups. Wolves head coach Tim Gaske coached the U14s and Tony Cooper coached the U16s.
"This is the best overall performance by our zone teams that I been involved in,” Gaske said.
The last round in zone football for the boys was last weekend at Captain Cook Oval in Toowoomba.
As always, Warwick junior club football will be played at Queens Park this morning, with 480 players participating.
President's Cup
WARWICK has trained well this week in the run-up to the President's Cup final against Garden City at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Tuesday at 8pm.
The Warwick Wolves colts haven't played for a fortnight which means the twice-weekly training runs have taken on even more importance.
See preview of grand final early next week.
