Warwick to shout clean credentials
A LARGE billboard boasting Warwick's clean and tidy status will soon stand proudly at an entrance into the Rose City.
On the back of the announcement at this year's Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland Tidy Towns awards - which saw Warwick snag the water conservation award and an overall Highly Commended - chief executive officer Rick Burnett said the billboard would help feed community pride.
"A highly commended has not happened before at the awards," he said.
"The award was a combination of Warwick's high standards in all the Tidy Towns categories and the achievements being met while in flood recovery.
"It is a great community effort and worthy of enormous pride."
The billboard was donated by sponsors Bishopp Outdoor Advertising and Paradise Outdoor Advertising.
Another Tidy Town winner for 2011 was Duaringa, whose local state school helped win the Young Legends award for its litter control and planting programs in local parks and streets.
Jane Williams of Jericho won the Individual Outstanding Achievement Award as a community volunteer.
A nurse by profession, Ms Williams chaired the Jericho Community Action Group during the summer floods and co-ordinated evacuations and medical supplies to isolated properties.
This year's Queensland Tidiest Town winner, Caloundra, will now vie for a national competition award.
