
Warwick's Mitchell Shield side mounts top of the ladder
THE Warwick Mitchell Shield side scored a 59-run win over Central Downs at Slade Park yesterday to take them to the top of the ladder.
Warwick recovered from 6-71 after batting first to post a competitive score of 185.
Jason Steketee (44) and Kevin Poole (25) combined in a seventh-wicket partnership of 40 runs after the Warwick collapse.
Chris Cantwell and Matthew Elford combined to add a valuable 30 runs for the last partnership.
In reply, Elford picked up 1-29 off nine overs and John Cleary 2-18 off eight overs to have Warwick on top early in the run chase.
Central Downs then regrouped to be 4-79 and in control of the game before Jason Steketee and Kevin Poole came into the attack.
Steketee claimed 3-14 off five overs and Poole 2-31 off five overs to set up the win.
Warwick went down by three wickets in the Davis Shield clash at Mayhew Oval yesterday.
Warwick was cruising at 1-78 before being dismissed for 160 runs.
Mitchell Siebenhausen top scored with 31 runs and received good support from Maugan Benn with 27 runs.
In reply Cameron Peterson took 1-24 off 10 overs and James Breen took 2-29 off 10 overs for Warwick.
Keiran Bourke, with 1-32 off nine overs, and Shaun O'Leary, 1-32 off 10 overs, each claimed a late wicket to leave Downlands College requiring 27 with three wickets in hand.
However former Queensland Country batsman Lindsay Mason scored an unbeaten 39 runs to guide Downlands College to a win.
