Warwick trio at the state football championships

FOOTBALL: Three Warwick footballers are in Townsville playing for Darling Downs in the Queensland 16-19 years schoolgirls championships.

This carnival is the first at state level for Warwick State High School student Jamilah Doro and Ashleigh Kane from The Scots PGC College.

Maddi Ross from Warwick High played for Darling Downs last year and is again in the team while Stanthorpe High student Jamie Buckley is debuting for Darling Downs at open level.

The championships go to Sunday.

Wolves away

THE Warwick Wolves will be without star centre midfielder Rob Davey for the premier game against Wanderers in Toowoomba on Saturday night.

Davey is unavailable and will be replaced in centre midfield by Jayden Webb. Josh Jordan has been called up to the 11.

Shayne Watson is captaining the side from centre back and has been one of the best all season.

“Wanderers are undefeated in premier but we have the team to stretch them,” coach Jon Pearson said.

“It is a really tight competition and we haven’t come up against a side we can’t beat on our day.”

“If we would have won instead of drawing against Gatton last week, we would be in second place.”

After missing last week, Damien Young will return to goal after colts goalie Alek Ebneter played strongly last week. The reserves and premier games against Wanderers are at 5pm and 7pm Saturday.

The Wolves men are next at home on June 4 against Rockville..

The Warwick women have a bye this weekend.
