Warwick Turf Club keen for Saturday race meetings

PHIL Grant is ready and willing for the Warwick Turf Club to run race meetings on successive Saturdays.

"It is good news every time we have a race meeting," Grant, the club president, said.

Due to the Toowoomba track at Clifford Park taking longer than expected to recover from recent work, the Warwick club has been granted a TAB meeting on February 28.

That is on top of a regular meeting, Tradies Day, already scheduled for February 21.

He said the greatest problem with the short notice for the additional TAB meeting was attracting sponsors.

"We welcome any sponsors who want to back the TAB meeting," Grant said.

"The second meeting in eight days will be okay by our volunteers, it will mean a lot more work but you don't knock a race meeting back.

"We won't have to put everything away on February 21 as there will be a meeting on the next Saturday."

He expects the extra TAB meeting to attract some trainers to Warwick who have never raced at Allman Park.

"There will be more prize money than at a normal meeting and it will be another chance to showcase our race track."
