IT IS less than five months to the start of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
While some Southern Downs residents will be baton bearers when the Queen's Baton comes through Warwick on March 29, others have been selected as volunteers.
One who is heading to the Gold Coast for training this weekend is Robyn Monaghan
She will work in spectator services at the main stadium at Carrara.
"It is really exciting, I have never been to the Commonwealth or Olympic Games,” she said.
"I have only previously watched the games on television and was at school when the Commonwealth Games were in Brisbane in 1982.”
Sporting Yearbook
THE Daily News Sporting Yearbook is being published again and will be inserted into the Daily News on Saturday week.
Many clubs and some businesses have taken advertisements which have made this publication possible.
The yearbook highlights many of the outstanding performances this year which is only possible due to the work of the volunteers.
I have worked at the Daily News since 1991 and we have many more sports than when I started - drag racing, horse trials and futsal are three that come to mind.
