Warwick Water Rats score late try to win again at home in rugby union
RUGBY UNION: The Water Rats came up against the Condamine Cods at home on Saturday to win by one points.
Coming off a loss last weekend to the Dalby Wheatmen, the Rats had to put on a good showing to maintain their position near the top of the ladder.
A strong start to the first half saw the Rats up 17–0 after the opening 20 minutes.
A strong comeback from the Cods saw them put on points going to half-time 17-14 behind. The Cods came out firing in the second half leading 21-17 but the Rats had the final say with a try bringing the final score to 22 – 21.
Warwick tries were scored by Anthony Hartwig, Brad Johnson, Joshua Sharman and Steven Turnbull.
The player points for best on ground went to Saul Whiley (one), Brad Johnson (two) and Jacob Brookman (three).
This weekend’s fixture is at home against competition leader the Toowoomba Bears.
The Rats have something to prove against the Bears after a loss to them in the pre-season.
Warwick will look to maintain its forward dominance in the competition and will use the younger backs to put the points on the board.
Training on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm with a barbecue after Thursday training at Risdon Oval.
