Students probe the universe

WARWICK West State School students have delved into the wider universe this week, with a virtual Star Lab set up in their auditorium.

Inside the pitch-black room, a projector illuminates the "sky" with various constellations and star fields, allowing kids to see for themselves the beauty of our solar system.

The Star Lab was hired from the Queensland Museum and teacher Alyn Roberts said the kids couldn't get enough.

"This is an extension on the curriculum for the kids, so rather than going on a field trip, we bring it here," Mr Roberts said.

Last night, year 3 students and their families got to attend a space-themed evening, with special guests Alex Hons and Rodger Macqueen, University of Southern Queensland astronomers, who did presentations and demonstrations with telescopes. Tonight it is the Year 5s turn.

Students' works will also be on show for parents and friends to view.
