Warwick wins a rugby union semi for first time in 16 years
RUGBY UNION: Warwick has qualified for the second week of finals in the Darling Downs Rugby Union competition.
In B grade, Warwick beat Goondiwindi 30-10 in the elimination semi at Goondiwindi on Saturday. It is the first semi-final win by the club since 2000.
Coach D.J. Cahill rated the performance one of the best of the season.
"The team is starting to click at the right time,” Cahill said.
Flyhalf Angus Brennand guided the team brilliantly around the park.
"Angus graduated from The Scots PGC College last year and is working on the family property at Tenterfield as he prepares to head to university next year,” Cahill said.
"He comes up to Warwick once or twice a week for training and games.”
Warwick dominated the forward battles with Will Dearden supreme at the back of the lineout. Anthony Savovski threw the ball well into the lineout.
Cahill said the Water Rats didn't make any mistakes on their lineout throws.
Warwick will play Rangers in the B-grade minor semi final on Saturday at Dalby.
Rangers will play in an A-grade semi straight after the Warwick game and will need to focus on three finals on the day.
