Warwick wins netball final by one goal
THE Warwick open netball team recovered from its first loss of the season to win the Darling Downs Inter-district Netball grand final yesterday at Nell E. Robinson Park.
Warwick finished the season with 19 wins and one loss.
The loss was to Goondiwindi in a round game yesterday but they returned to the winners' list to beat Toowoomba 16-15 in the final.
Warwick won the final quarter by one goal after the scores were tied at three-quarter time.
Captain Jaimie McMillan scored the last goal for Warwick to take the visiting team to 16.
McMillan won shooter of the grand final and Jess Thompson was the top defender.
In the 15 years age group, Warwick won the grand final under the coaching of Derek Kane.
The Warwick 13 years team under coach Kerri Shooter won in the 13/14 years age group.
Warwick Netball Association secretary Linda Bunch said the Warwick performance this season was the best in recent years.
"It was a great thrill when our 11 years team was runners-up in their first year of inter-district netball," Bunch said.
"All our eight Warwick teams improved during the season."
Warwick netball will now move into finals mode in August prior to the junior grand finals on September 5 and senior grand finals on September 7.
