Warwick wins nailbiter
WARWICK grabbed a last minute win in the Toowoomba veteran's hockey competition beating Past High, 2-1 in an extra-time cliff hanger.
Warwick captain Gary Millard said his team failed to capitalise on some scoring chances leaving the game wide open at nil-all with only three minutes to go.
"Then they (Past High) managed to score to go one goal up," he said.
"But then Dion Phillips scored from a penalty corner for us."
The tension was palpable as the final whistle blew with the scored board tied at 1-1, taking the game into extra time.
"It was very exciting for out team," Millard said.
"Andrew Millard managed to score for us in the second period."
It was the second season and the first grand final win for Warwick, after they lost the final 1-0 last year.
Warwick's A3 Ladies were set to take on Rangeville who they beat 2-0 in the grand final qualifier.
They will vie for their chance at glory at Clyde Park in Toowoomba at 11.15am today.
