Warwick wins mixed grand final in Rose Bowl Carnival
POLOCROSSE: Warwick took an early lead in the A-grade mixed grand final and was never header in the NTI Rose Bowl Carnival at Morgan Park at the weekend.
The carnival featured 82 club teams and four teams in the Australian Junior Challenge which pitted two Australian junior squads against teams from New South Wales and Queensland.
In the mixed, Katie Barr and Braydon Beck from the Warwick club won the best home and rider awards as Warwick won 18-9 against Tansey in the final.
Commentator John Cooper told the crowd he didn't expect such a large margin but it was a committed Warwick team which led early and was never threatened.'
The team included Test player Paul McGrath and his daughter Jordan, one of the up and coming players in the sport.
Barr said it was exciting to win the player award as she pushed hard to make the Queensland women's team for next year's nationals in Albury.
"It was not bad on a horse called Barry," she said.
For Beck, it was his first A-grade mixed success at the Rose Bowl.
In the Rose Bowl final, Tansey beat Wandoan 25-14.
GOLD ARE THE VICTORS
The Australian Gold team won overall narrowly in the Australian Junior Challenge.
Gold was coached by Cunningham player Robyn Cooper who said it was definitely a thrill to put on the Australian shirt.
"I would be happy to coach again if the opportunity arose," she said.
Best player awards were won by Lyndsay Doolan and Clancy Knight in the challenge.
