Wolves join southern comp

JIM Osborn has no doubt the move of the Warwick Wolves to the Stanthorpe competition will boost interest in the sport.

Warwick will play City in colts at 11.30am Saturday and the seniors will take the field at 4.15pm at CF White Oval.

"Playing in Stanthorpe will be something different, a new challenge," Osborn said.

"There will be a different culture in Stanthorpe with the clubs a lot more patriotic. I expect there will be a bigger following for the games in Stanthorpe."

Osborn reckons if he scores one goal this season, he will do well.

"I am mainly a defender so want to make sure I don't score any own goals."

Jorge Muehlebach will debut for the Warwick colts' team at the age of 13. He has played juniors in Warwick since the age of six and is in a South West Queensland development team.

"I want to play in the back line, preferably on the left," Muehlebach said.

"I am not a striker and prefer defending."

Warwick football president Jon Pearson, who is also colts coach, said players were happy most of their games would be on Saturday afternoons.

"That will leave their Sundays free," Pearson said. "We are happy with the draw."

While Warwick has plenty of players for the senior team. The Warwick colts has a squad of 12, 10 of whom were at training on Tuesday night.

Pearson, who is keen to attract extra players, can be contacted on 0448 603860.

The first Warwick home games will be on April 27 at Queens Park against the International club.

All away games will be at 12.30pm for colts and 4.15pm for seniors while home games are at 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Eleven games will be played on Saturdays, with four on Sundays.
