Warwick Wolves to play Friday night finals game
FOOTBALL: The Warwick Wolves will be back to full strength for the Football Toowoomba colts preliminary final against Highfields at USQ at 8pm Friday.
Coach Tony Cooper was happy with Tuesday night training.
"We had 14 of our 15 players at training. The only player missing was goalie Alek Ebneter who was in Toowoomba where he goes to school,” Cooper said.
Two weeks ago, Warwick went down 5-4 on penalties to Garden City but will be boosted by the return of Devon Cooper and Declan Butler.
Cooper said the key for Warwick was the ability to finish off moves.
"We had enough chances to beat Garden City but didn't convert our chances into goals,” he said.
Gift Lisie was third in the list of goalscorers in the colts competition and Zac Wall was in the topfive in the battle for player of the year which was won by Sam Brown from Highfields.
Two seasons ago, Warwick won the Stanthorpe colts premiership before going down in the grand final last year to Wanderers in Toowoomba.
This season, Warwick has won all four games against Highfields but Cooper is not reading anything into statistics.
"Highfields have improved and field a strong midfield led by Sam Brown,” he said.
Warwick junior preliminary finals will be played this Saturday and grand finals will be on September 9.
